Hanami - Hanami literally translates to "flower watching" and is an annual celebration of Sakura and springtime. People gather around cherry blossom trees with family and friends to enjoy delicious drinks and food under the beautiful pink trees, often with the petals gently snowing from the branches when in full bloom.

Hanahaki Disease - a fictional disease in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It ends when the beloved returns their feelings (romantic love only; strong friendship is not enough), or when the victim dies. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love also disappear.

The term hanahaki comes from the Japanese words hana (花), which means "flower", and hakimasu (吐きます), which means "to throw up".

About:

Hanahaki for Hanami is a multi-fandom event centered around creating works related to Hanahaki disease and posting during the flower viewing season (Hanami). Hanami generally runs from late-March to early-May. For the purpose of this event, posting will be throughout the month of April.

All fan or original creations will be acceptable so long as it is tagged appropriately. There are no content restrictions. Because of this, all participants must be 18+. Anyone found lying about their age will be blocked and have their work removed/not shared.

• All work must be your own original idea. Plagiarism of any kind is strictly prohibited. No AI-generated works will be permitted. This includes reposting artwork.
• SFW, NSFW, and problematic works of all kinds are allowed as long as it pertains to the trope “hanahaki disease.”
• Posting will take place on Tumblr, Bluesky, and AO3. Please @ the account or use the tag: #hanahaki4hanami to share your work.

Each week in April will have a different prompt theme listed. Prompts are just a suggestion. You may use as many or as few as you’d like or none at all! Feel free to take inspiration from the flowers and their meanings or post something completely unrelated. As long as the work is Hanahaki Disease related, it counts for the event.

Posting:

Posting will take place all throughout the month of April. Works will be reposted/reblogged across all forms of social media. Please have your works tagged appropriately. The AO3 collection will remain open until May 7th to allow time for additional works to be added that were not able to be posted during April.
